Manhole and Pipeline Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation
Trenchless Advisor provides planning, analysis, design, and management of all conveyance and control aspects of water, stormwater, and sanitary sewer system pipelines. There is a tremendous need to rehabilitate these normally out-of-sight/out-of-mind buried assets if they are to help us improve our quality of life. Proactive rehabilitation programs effectively manage the costs of system replacement and minimize risk and sociological impacts from aging infrastructure. As an industry leader, Trenchless Advisor brings value to our clients through trenchless technology by recommending and implementing the right methodology for condition assessment and rehabilitation. Trenchless Advisor's services include engineering design and construction quality control for:

  • Asset Management
  • Dye Flood Testing
  • Risk Assessment

MANHOLES
There are many problems associated with faulty or deteriorated manholes. Over a period of time, manholes may develop cracks or fractures. As these defects become critical, groundwater can possibly leak into the manhole. As the groundwater leaks into the manhole, cavities will form outside of the manhole. As much as 30% of infiltrations problems can be attributed to faulty manholes. The main purpose of inspecting the manhole is to find and identify problems before they become hazardous. Manhole inspection data can also be used in conjunction with flow modelling activities. Depths from the inspections can be used to help model flows.

The inspection of manholes should be part of every inspection project. They can be as simple or detailed as desired but the results often provide unique insight into the overall performance of your collection system. Trenchless Advisor recently acquired a manhole pole camera to augment these types of inspections. This camera provides a detailed picture of the condition of the manhole along with a "look" up each pipe connection.A manhole will be evaluated for either its structural integrity, Infiltration/Inflow Study (I/I) or for flow modelling

PIPELINES
Understanding the exact condition of your system is not a guessing game. Proper inspection is the crucial first step to well-maintained pipes. As part of this pipelines condition and assessment program, it contributes to solution to address and manages complex wastewater maintenance and asset management functions. It is a strong proactive regulatory compliance structure, designed to greatly reduce the risk of EPA compliance orders, and ultimately reduce reactive operation and maintenance costs and capital expenditures due to collection system infrastructure failures. These programs are designed by individual community needs to improve overall operations efficiency and will result in improved community health and reduction of environmental concerns by controlling dry and wet weather sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs). These are tailored to the client's needs.

Geographical Information System (GIS)/Global Position System(GPS)

Sanitary Sewer Evaluation with GIS

The GPS data collection is mostly used during manhole inspections. The data is imported into a GIS mapping system. The data collected will provide the client with an overall view of the manholes in the system. We understand that most clients require an accuracy of +/- 1 meter. To ensure accurate readings, we will have a total station available to the crew to collect data in areas where GPS readings are likely to be suspect.

The field crews will start and end each data collection session by shooting known points that have been identified by the client. Each day the work will be downloaded and processed at the end of the day so that the field crew can visually identify areas that need verification. The data will also be compared to any existing as-built information that is available from the client so that any subtle differences can be identified and resolved. Once we are satisfied with the quality of the data, we will process it into the Microsoft Access database for delivery to the client.
